Newcastle City Council’s Trading Standards Team Seized Illegal E-cigarettes Worth £190,000, Including Elf And Geek Bar

The City Council of Newcastle in the United Kingdom has confiscated more than 2,000 boxes of e-cigarettes from a former takeaway shop in the West End of Newcastle.

The nicotine content of illegal e-cigarettes is more than twice the legal limit, and an investigation has been triggered after students complained about their use of e-cigarettes at school.

An e-cigarette is equivalent to 125 cigarettes, which may be toxic if consumed by children.

In the UK, it is illegal to sell e-cigarettes with a nicotine concentration of more than 20 mg/ml.

Most e-cigarette products are Elf and Geek Bar Pros, which contain 50 mg/ml-more than twice the legal limit.

Last week, the Newcastle City Council’s Trade Standards Group seized a large number of e-cigarette products from a former takeaway shop in Newcastle West, estimated to be worth more than £190,000.

The Trade Standards Department has launched a criminal investigation and may bring charges against the owner of the goods.

Senator Linda Hobson, a member of the Cabinet of Housing and Supervision, said that the nicotine content of these e-cigarettes is much higher than the legal limit, which means that they should not be sold-especially to children who may suffer toxic effects.

“We want parents to know what they are, so they can warn their children not to take them. I want to thank the school for letting us notice this and congratulate our trading standards team for investigating this and taking this potential Danger drags out of our streets.”

Newcastle Public Health Director Professor Eugene Milne said: Although nicotine itself is not the real dangerous part of smoking and is safe in moderation, it should not be consumed by children, and of course it should not be consumed at these strengths on a prescription.

“Although e-cigarette products continue to play an important role in supporting smokers to switch to less harmful forms of nicotine, we must do everything we can to prevent sales to children and remove products that do not comply with UK regulations from sales.”

The seized items are kept in a secret location, and if the magistrate issues a confiscation order to the council, these items may be destroyed.
