The 2021 International Electronic Atomization Industry Summit Forum was held in Shenzhen on December 17. Han Jiyun, Senior Vice President of Smol Group and President of FEELM Business Group, delivered a keynote speech “Innovation and Intelligent Creation of the Future” at the scene.

Dear leaders and friends in the industry, good morning, everyone. It is a great honor for me to be here to communicate and discuss with you.

As a member of the electronic atomization industry, at this rare opportunity, I first want to express my sincere gratitude and gratitude. Thanks to the party and government for their care and assistance to enterprises under the epidemic, as well as their support and guidance for the healthy development of our industry. Thank you Shenzhen, a hot spot for innovation and entrepreneurship, and also thank the Baoan District Government for its continuous support and concern for our company. Thanks to Shenzhen Customs, Shenzhen Municipal Market Supervision and Administration Bureau and other departments for their long-term help.

As Chairman Yao said just now, in the past 20 years, our industry has been changing, improving, and growing. In the industry, each of us deeply feels that technological innovation and manufacturing progress are always driving the development of the industry.

Back to today’s keynote speech. We often ask ourselves a question: Is the electronic atomization industry a high-tech industry? This is a very interesting question.

Let us look back at the development of the industry in the past 20 years. Especially in recent years, the entire industry has paid more and more attention to technology research and development. I believe we can deeply feel that electronic atomization is no longer just a simple device that emits heat and smokes.

Small devices need to use more and more big sciences. For example, we use fluid mechanics to solve the problem of liquid leakage; to solve the atomization efficiency, we use new materials and engineering thermophysics; in terms of product safety, Biomedicine and various other sciences are used.

It can be seen that in such a small device, a new discipline system has been formed, and we call it atomization science. It can be used not only in electronic cigarettes, but also in various new fields such as medical atomization and health atomization, so that atomization can penetrate people’s hearts and achieve “atomization of everything.”

So our answer is that electronic atomization is high-tech, and big science is hidden in small devices.

Next, we will all be concerned about the second question: What is the status of China’s electronic atomization in the world? We found a copy of the latest information for 2021. According to data, China’s electronic atomization patents account for more than 90% of the world’s total, China has accounted for more than 95% of the global electronic atomization production capacity, and more than 200 countries and regions purchase Chinese electronic atomization products.

We see that, as a whole, our industry has formed a complete industrial chain from upstream raw material supply, midstream design and manufacturing, to downstream global sales. The global market is inseparable from China. And as one of the industries controlled by the Chinese, our industry has become one of the representatives of “China’s creation and global consumption”.

As I just shared, the electronic atomization industry has the attributes of a high-tech industry and is also one of the representative industries with leading power in China. Like other similar industries, its future is inseparable from continuous innovation.

It can be said that since the reform and opening up for more than 40 years, our manufacturing has become famous all over the world, but Industry 4.0 and Made in China 2025 ushered in a new era and put forward higher requirements for the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry. The development of traditional manufacturing enterprises into new intelligent manufacturing enterprises is not only the direction of global manufacturing development, but also the requirement of high-quality development of China’s economy.

In this new situation, we are willing to explore the new business model of “New Manufacturing in China”, grasping core technology on the one hand and advanced manufacturing on the other, so as to continuously enhance the global competitiveness of our industry.

Grasp the core technology, innovation is a key element. As I said earlier, electronic atomization is a new interdisciplinary science that requires us to continue to explore and innovate. Looking back on the path we have traveled, it is one innovation that has promoted the sustainable development of the entire industry. Whether it is the emergence of open large smoke technology, the evolution of new materials such as atomizing cores from cotton to ceramics, and the development and application of nicotine salt technology, scientific and technological innovations have brought consumers more choices.

Technological innovation is the driving force behind the development of the industry to this day. Facing the future, we believe that our industry will continue to promote the close integration of technological innovation with market demand and consumer demand, and continue to strengthen the global competitive advantage of our entire industry.

Today, I believe that most people in the industry will increasingly realize that technological innovation is the basic consensus of the industry. I usually communicate with friends in the industry, and everyone will mention how we promote innovation? Everyone generally believes that true innovation is the bottom-level innovation of key technologies. To do this well, you need to really sink your heart and firmly promote deeper original basic research, which is very important for our industry.

The basic research behind electronic atomization technology, including advanced atomization materials, mass and heat transfer, atomization mechanism, aerosol science, and safety and health assessment, etc. The level of these original basic research determines our technological development The level also determines our final product strength. We continue to grasp this key point in order to make my innovation more valuable and promote the industry to progress in a deeper direction.

Here, we also show the overall investment in innovation in the past few years:

In the past few years, we probably invested more than RMB 2 billion in R&D and innovation. Our R&D personnel have exceeded 1,500, and the ratio of R&D personnel to employees has exceeded 50%.

As our future goal, our R&D funding will eventually account for 10% of our turnover, and 30% of this 10% will be invested in basic technology research. In addition, by increasing R&D investment, we have applied for more than 3,000 patents worldwide, and nearly half of them have been authorized. There are more than 1,300 invention patent applications and more than 290 authorized invention patents. At the same time, we have also established basic laboratories certified by CNAS and UL, and have conducted in-depth cooperation and exchanges with top international testing institutions.

I just talked about technological innovation, and now I will talk about my views on advanced manufacturing. We consider advanced manufacturing in the electronic atomization industry to be specialized, large-scale, systematic and digital.

First, let’s talk about specialization. As a manufacturer of electronic cigarettes, we have been on the road of automation for many years. We believe that advanced manufacturing is by no means a simple logic of replacing manual labor with automated production lines. It is actually a process of deep understanding, deepening and accumulation of our product design capabilities and manufacturing processes.

The product design mentioned here is based on the consideration of automation structure to make more reasonable product structure and material selection. As for the process, we need to know what points must be controlled in the entire automation process to make the product more stable and reliable. Take Simer as an example, our professional team has more than 200 people, specializing in product design and optimization of production processes.

The second is scale. An important starting point for our initial deployment of advanced manufacturing was to be able to meet the large-scale, high-quality production needs of large overseas customers, and through the comprehensive introduction of automated full-process high-speed production, all links were opened up. At present, the production speed of our automated single production line has exceeded 7,200 per hour, and this number is still accelerating.

So, if you want to complete the scale, you must first modularize. Each module has its own elimination and replacement mechanism, which ensures the efficiency of our inspection and the efficiency of the elimination, thereby ensuring the efficiency of the entire automated production line.

In addition, for scale, standardization is also very important. Without standardization, without module standardization, process standardization, process standardization, and quality standardization, automation will become very disorderly and messy.

Of course, while scaling up, we are also adapting to the continuous increase in production capacity changes and improving the flexible use of equipment. This kind of modularization is also a good help and support for flexibility, and can better meet our large-scale, mass-manufacturing needs. 

The third is systemization. The systemization I am talking about here mainly refers to the automated factory from the material system to the automatic material transfer system. All the integration does not require human control. I believe that some reporters have visited our related factories some time ago and saw that our overall production environment will not be affected by the frequent entry and exit of personnel.

Finally, digitization. Today is a digital age, and the upgrading of manufacturing is inseparable from digitalization. We put digitization in an important position of automation and advanced manufacturing, and use communication technology and artificial intelligence technology to aggregate all information in the system for real-time analysis and management. At the same time, we can see the entire production progress in real time through a mobile phone and a computer. The advantage of this is that each of our products will have its own ID card, and product traceability can be completed in this system as soon as possible.

Only by doing the four modernizations mentioned earlier will our advanced manufacturing have a solid guarantee. Advanced manufacturing is a systematic project, and we need to change our traditional manufacturing mode, production organization and industrial form, even our traditional factory buildings, and our infrastructure.

Advanced manufacturing is also a future project. In this field, whether China or the world, new technological achievements are constantly emerging. We need continuous learning and improvement. Now, please allow me to share some of our new achievements in the field of manufacturing upgrades.

Starting from a new starting point in the industry today, we are full of hope for the future.

General Secretary Xi Jinping once said that only by combining scientific and technological achievements with national needs, people’s requirements, and market demands, can we truly realize the value of innovation and realize innovation-driven development. I think this is also the purpose of innovation that our entire electronic atomization industry needs to adhere to: always take the national and consumer interests as the starting point, and our innovation can be more meaningful.
