UK Grocery Giants Take Elf Bars Off Shelves Due to Discovered Violations

Three of the UK’s largest grocery chains, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Morrisons, have taken action following a manufacturer’s admission of distributing products containing illegal features. The stores have removed the watermelon-flavored Elf Bar 600 disposable vapes from their shelves and Morrisons has gone one step further, taking all flavors of the 600 series off the shelves. This decision came after the UK tabloid, the Daily Mail, tested several Elf Bar 600 vapes and reported that they contained between 3 and 3.2 milliliters of e-liquid, which exceeds the legal limit of 2 milliliters under UK law.

Elf Bar has apologized for the mix-up, stating that the products were not intentionally sent to British stores. The company, based in China, is the most popular disposable vape brand in the UK, selling millions of devices each week. Some of their products not sold in the UK or EU contain up to 13 milliliters of e-liquid.

These events follow two years of public concern over disposable vapes in the UK, which is similar to worries expressed in other countries. A British legislator recently announced plans to introduce a bill to ban the sale of disposable vapes, and the Scottish government has considered a similar prohibition. In the United States, disposable vapes now lead the sales in the convenience store and gas station segment of the vaping market.
